|
|
Since thanksgiving I've had gradually increasing stomach pain and bloating. I thought I was being glutened at first but now I think it's something else. Allergy testing hasn't helped in the past so I decided to try going dairy free and see if that helps. How long does it normally take to see results? I'm really hoping it's dairy because otherwise it's probably corn since it seems to be something I eat every day. _________________ Lauren

Lauren,
I had immediate improvement when I cut out dairy. Corn is also a problem for me, though I do eat small amounts very rarely, which produces varying results depending on what form it is in. Bloating and stomach pain are evident when I do dare eat corn or corn products. _________________ Nance

This morning I had corn chips for breakfast and had an awful stomach ache immediately afterward and now I'm having some heartburn, so I'm definitely thinking it's corn. _________________ Lauren

Oh no! I'm sorry I recently was experiencing an increase in gluten-like symptoms and thought maybe I was being glutened but realized it was almonds and pistachios. It seems that my body does not like it when I overdose on certain foods. I was able to tolerate these nuts for awhile, but I just ate too much of them. I've cut them out and now have felt really good for a few months. I also avoid soy and lactose.
Just a thought, but maybe you have been eating too much corn? Or dairy? Or maybe it's something else you could eat before and now all of a sudden you are reacting? I haven't tried to eat almonds yet, I'm not sure if this is a life long intolerance that I've created, or if I'll be able to eat them again in the future? Good luck finding out what is causing your reaction. I know I haven't really helped much in my response lol but just wanted to say I know how frustrating it can be |

I experience what Casey was talking about when I eat too much of something too often, especially if it is something I generally limit, like nightshades, sugar, legumes, and processed foods. Maybe try some naked, organic corn (kernels) and see how you react?
Food rotation is more important to me now than ever to keep foods IN the rotation and to make myself add new, tolerated foods to my diet.
I had an apple just about do me in the other night. I can generally eat apples with no problem, except I ate this one on an empty stomach. Go figure. _________________ Nance

I agree with Nancy. I try to rotate my grains and nuts. It seems to work for me. I know I've had problems when I've eaten too much corn also. Hope it works for you, Lauren. _________________ Judy |

THe strange thing is that I've not been eating as much corn lately anyway. Since a couple of months before this all started I'd been using my rice cooker more and eating corn chips less. Oh well, it looks like san-j GF tamari is corn free too (except maybe for the alcohol, and I'm generally fine with distilled things) so I can survive without corn. I just have to find a new brand of frozen veggies since the green giant all have a corn starch containing sauce on them. _________________ Lauren

You're probably getting more corn then you might imagine. It's worse then gluten - it's in everything! We're just going down the corn free path with my niece. Sorry to hear that you might be having some reactions to it.
BTW you should start to feel some difference after four days. This is what my naturopath told me when I gave up all my allergenic foods a few years ago, he was right, in my case anyway. _________________ Cheers!

I find the more processed foods you eat, the worse it is for you. Corn chips are a highly processed food, and the chance of CC with them is very high to begin with.
When I first went corn free, anything processed made me ill, yet I could still eat regular corn, as a veggie..frozen or fresh.
I gave up dairy in July 09, and within 2 days my insomnia went away, which I had been dealing with for more years than I can remember. I rarely slept more than 4 hours a night, if I slept 4..now I get 5 1/2 to 6 hours a night. I tried bringing dairy back, just in a little milk in my coffee, and the insomnia came back with a vengeance.
Corn is one of the major intolerances out there, many have issues with corn, and it is in so much, on one form or another. That's why processed food is such a problem. _________________ You can't discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore! |

Thanks, I'll try to stay with it at least a week. If nothing else, I'm going to lose a couple lbs because there's not a whole lot of gluten, corn, and dairy free options. Brunch was brown rice with tomatoes and chick peas. _________________ Lauren

I've never had chick peas, not to my knowledge, but brown rice and tomatoes are foods I can't have, so you are still ahead of me! _________________ You can't discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore! |

Chebe flat bread/wraps save my butt regularly. If I ever start reacting to Chebe (or eggs) I'm sunk! _________________ Nance

They are also called garbanzo beans. I like them because they have a nice texture and cook quickly. If you forget to soak them the night before you can put them in the crock pot in the AM and still have them ready to eat by dinner. _________________ Lauren

cultureslayer, you'll have to let us know how you're feeling at the end of your corn free week. Hope it goes well for you. _________________ Cheers!

I have had a few things with citric acid and xanthan gum way down the ingredient list, so maybe I should just say I'm corn light. It's almost impossible to completely avoid corn but I'm eating a very small fraction of what I was before. I'll post the results. I'm really tired of being tired and need to make sure it's not because of food. _________________ Lauren
