Before I was diagnosed with CD I had a lot of problems with cramps and pain. They thought I had endo, but I had a laparoscopy ( don't think I spelled that right) and found out that I actually have ovarian cysts. I still have trouble with them. I guess Celiac and feminine problems go together. For me though birth control pills did help with the pain and cramps during my time of the month. _________________ It only gets better from here. |

I was diagnosed with Endometriosis in August of 2005. I had 13 day menstral cycles, and ovarian cysts while on the pill. It actually turned out I was ovulating through the pill and was forming cysts because of the fiborids caused by the endometriosis. It was also on the nerve to my right leg, and my leg would go numb even when I was walking. I had a laporoscopy in August of 2005 and then went on 6 months of lupron shots.
I was diagnosed in November 2007 with Celiac disease. My doctors have told me that while both issues deal with my immune system reaction to my body, they do not know if there is any direct cause, but that it definatley prolonged my diagnosis of celiac, because the symptoms seems random and disconnected. But I feel that they are conected and when I have problems with one, my body has a harder time dealing with the other. ? |

I too have PCOS and I think I probably have endometriosis as well, however I haven't had a lap to find out. I had endometrial ablation back in June because my periods were so horrible and I cannot take BC pills anymore because they gave me pulmonary embolisms a few years ago.
I've been struggling right now with a cyst on my right ovary that is pretty horrible, but I have a feeling it must be going away because it hasn't been bothering me as much. |

Prior to my getting pregnant, I found the following website, and it helped me during the month to get through those awful periods I had.
There's a diet apparently for Endo, and it is so close to the GF diet that it wasn't that hard to tweak what I was eating to help myself out further.
http://www.endo-resolved.com/diet.html
Hope that helps you guys! |

Hi, This is for Jen (and anyone else questioning Lupron)
I was diagnosed with CD about 5 years ago. I was also diagnsed with endometriosis a few years back. I was on a gluten free diet so could not understand why I was in so much pain. I would take Advil for cramps and it helped. But I was getting almost flu like symptoms. This was new. Long story short...I had surgery to get rid of the endometriosis. It was supposed to be 45 min but turned out to be over 2 hours because there was so much. My Dr at he time suggested I try Lupron to keep it from coming back. It worked. Due to health insurance issues I had to delay a shot for over 2 months. The stomach pains came back and it was almost like I was eating gluten again. Anyway, the only side affect I noticed was hot flashes. Nothing comapred to the pain I was in. I hope this helps! |

I actually went gluten-free to try to control my endo. Diagnosed with the endo first, long, long ago. Then was doing reading on natural ways to control it because I'd been on the pill, and been on Lupron, and hated both...
In this book, it claimed that a majority of women with endo are allergic to wheat, dairy or both. |

| BTW, I'm looking for a good endometriosis discussion board, if anyone knows of such a creature. |

Glad it worked for you. It screwed up my system royally, and I had every reaction to it possible, including massive weight gain in little over a week's time.
I'd had the laparoscopic surgery and was told for my pain levels, I should have had much more than I did. There were only three precancerous areas, and my ovaries were tied upside down and backwards to the abdominal wall. Apparently the endo kicked into high gear when my celiac did. But, when tested for IBS and all that other stuff, everything was inconclusive. It was not until my sister and parents were diagnosed that my PCP said to "try it" as far as going gluten free.
I will never once look back. My quality of life is so much better, and I'm not stuck in bed looped out on pain meds anymore 2 weeks out of the month.
Ever since before I started having a period, I had issues. When they did start, I became bed bound. We tried Hormone therapy of almost every kind, nothing worked. Everything made it worse. I was on some pretty heavy pain medicines.
Being gluten free now for some time, I do not use anything heavier than Paracetamol or Ibuprofen. I have good and bad months, but for the most part everything is far better than it has been for the last almost 18 years. |

I am interested to hear that others have both wheat/gluten problems and endometriosis. I was diagnosised with endo at age 16 and also wheat allergy however I did not understand the implications of being allergic to wheat and spent the next 12 years with nasty guts and a hysterectomy at age 27. I was really blessed to have four children in six years before my hysterectomy and was left with one ovary. I had ten years of relative peace...gut pain, allergies and problems which were diagnosied as anxiety, unexplained weight gain, irritable bowel syndrome-you know the story. My Dr. finally went in for a look thinking my gall bladder and appendix were a problem (removed them) and I found I was covered in edno...needless to say it took another surgery weeks later and some very good allergy testing-I am allergic to grass, mold, trees, wheat, apples, tomatoes and dust. Basically all things . I have found success with compounded/natural HRT and careful following with my docs for some meds. I have to stay on a strict diet and since my immune system is constantly challenged I spend a lot of time in the spring sick with whatever is going around. This spring is five years since my last endo surgery but I feel like the pain is now out of control again. Time to work on strategies. It is really frustrating to hurt so bad but it was empowering to realize I knew what was causing the pain and I could do something about it. So off to get the docs on board. We will see what turns up. Glad to know there are people out there who are also struggling with these challenges. _________________ Valisa |
