Let me ask you this...would you trust me? We live in a mixed house. I don't personally use wheat flour, but Peg does on occasion. |
We do this too, and I'd be mad if somebody came through my house and threw out half my stuff because it's NGF.
However, I would appreciate it if somebody came through my house and helped me organize my stuff: "NGF food here, GF food there. OH, you didn't know __ is NGF? Yup, it goes over here" _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

I don't think anyone is suggesting that a mentor make the decision on what is thrown away and what is kept. I do, however, think a a mentor can articulate the possible risks/pitfalls/considerations that come in a mixed household. Not that mixed households are bad, I mean, but they have to be handled a lot differently than a completely GF house. The way I do things now is vastly different than when I was trying to keep a mixed kitchen. I know for sure I would not have considered airborne gluten flour a risk before making our house GF. A good mentor makes one think about things that were not on the radar screen before. _________________ -Colleen

Sorry, I didn't mean that literally. I don't think anybody would go through your pantry in such a manner. At least, I hope not.
What about meals out? Are there any mentors who'll help with choosing restaurants? That was difficult for me too. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

thanks for the input everyone:)
ostrich, yeah, i think i still need help with the restaurants the only place we have eaten is the outback--which is rather expensive, and we drove over an hour to goto a gf pizza place once when first gf.i know there are alot of restaurants in the area that cater to celiacs, but honestly i am scared to go out to eat, so i take snacks with me in the car, or stop at circle k as the old wisconsin beef sticks are gf:) and labeled so:)
oh our local celiac group does go out to eat once a month to different restaurants, so i think i will take a step and try it out, gots to get over my fears some time:)
thanks for the input again, highly appreciated!! i feel better prepared when i goto the group meeting now and talk about this. _________________ Gluten is my cryptonite |
