Hi Everyone!
I have been SO scared to eat out since going completely GFCF on 6/22/08. DH and I like to go out, so I've been trying to figure out how I'm going to handle it. DH and I have been married 24 years this month, and I have no desire to suddenly become a hermit. (Still, I have no desire to eat out as often as we used to.) Sooo now that I feel so much better and have spent lots of $$$ on starting to edumacate myself about this crazy lifestyle (approximately 10 books, Triumph Dining cards, Living Without GF & CF dining cards, Living Without magazine), DH and I decided to PARTY!!! (Kidding!) ANYWAY...
I had a positive experience at TOSF last night. DH and I went at 4:30, so it wasn't too busy. My server was very friendly and attentive. She told me that she'd worked there for a year, and I was only her second customer to ask for the GF pasta--the first was earlier that day!!
After she checked to make sure the sauce was dairy free, I ordered the GF pasta with marinara sauce, and house salad (no croutons) with the balsamic vinaigrette.
When my meal was brought to me by someone else, the server announced that it was GF. (It is GF corn rotelli and looks totally different than the regular pasta--very yellow!) It was definitely not the most exciting meal in the world, but I was thrilled to be able to eat out with my husband. Best of all, I had no reactions!

Wow! Glad your first attempt at dining out GF/CF was a success! You were wise to go at a slow time. I don't eat out often anymore, but with the exception of one restaurant that I trust completely, I dine on slow nights and at slow times, in the hopes that a less busy kitchen can be more attentive to safety. It's nice to feel normal for a change, isn't it?! _________________ Steph |

Thanks! It was my second dining out experience; P.F. Chang's was my first one. I have to admit that I felt quite a bit of anxiety both times. One thing that helped at TOSF was that my server seemed very concerned about making sure my meal was okay. I do feel relieved, BUT I refuse to let my guard down, too! It's a jungle out there! |
