|
|
| I recently found out that i was allergic to wheat, not only that but I am also allergic to corn, rice, almonds, oranges, tomatoes, coffee, and shellfish. I'm going to be going back to school in two weeks and I can barely find foods to eat at the grocery stores here, so I don't know what I am going to do once I go to school. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what I can eat and how to deal with this living on my own. I'm frustrated and pretty mch always hungry so any help would be awesome. |

Hi Annimal,
Welcome to the board! Sorry to hear you have to wrestle with this
Will you be living on campus or off? Must you take the dining plan or can you opt out of it [do they even still have that anymore?]
We've got a couple people with food issues very similar to yours. I suspect they'll chime in. _________________ Al

Hopefully they'll let you out. If not perhaps a letter from your doc might help persuade them??
It'll probably be easier if you can select and make your own food. It may not be more convenient, but at least you won't feel like crap.
What kind of foods do you like? Maybe we can help find some things for you. _________________ Al

Have you tried looking around in our recipes section? There's quite a few that would be easy to make. If you need help modifying any of them please let us know.
IMHO even with a note from your doc, I wouldn't trust the school's meals. There's waaaay too much room for cross contamination. The ladies at my college used to handle all sorts of different foods with the same gloves. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

The note from the doc was to help get of the dining plan. Sorry, if I didn't explain myself very well. _________________ Al

What about the tortilla wraps made out of teff flour? I haven't tried them yet, but my dad just sent me some of those... _________________ ~Torrey
