I thought this was quite cool. I've often thought about doing a similar thing

This sounds wonderful!
Now if only it were smoke free as well. I get a lot sicker from being around smoke than from having gluten. I mean, really, really sick. |

My husband and I have been on the last five of Bob & Ruth's Gluten-Free Travel & Dining Club's February get-aways (including the one last month, to Punta Cana), and I went on their Grand Orient Trip, a two-week tour of China, with my sister last fall. As you can tell, we enjoy travelling with them enough to keep coming back, and the regulars on the February get-aways include one couple neither of whom is gluten-free - they just enjoy the group.
I'm the celiac, and have never had a problem with the food. On our February trips, Bob works with the chefs and he and Ruth review everything on the huge resort buffet before the dining room opens, clearly marking anything not gluten-free. We get special gluten-free treats at our own tables too, and are free to either eat with the group (as we usually do - a great group of people every year) or go off on our own for a quiet dinner, just stopping by the gluten-free table to pick up our special treats. Food on the China trip was good too, with plenty of choices - and the accomodations were great. (Condoleezza Rice was staying in our hotel in Beijing - not that we ever saw more than her limousine.)
Others in the group have had multiple food allergies on every trip we've taken - and they've been accomodated without fuss. I'm sensitive to cigarette smoke too and have never noticed any - never thought to ask if the trips are smoke-free, but I know our accomodations were. If you have any other questions like this, just email Bob & Ruth. Bob replies promptly if he's in the country and not off on one of their trips. |
