Quote:
Are your fries gluten free?

Yes, McDonald's French Fries are 100% gluten free.

rang my local restaurant and they said they only use that particular frier for chips so, can I risk them for my boy ?

They sound like a safer choice than they are in the US. Cross contamination would still be a risk.

I worked at McD's for many years as a teenager and thru my college years. I was the "opener" for about 4 years which one of the jobs was filtering all the oil vats. Typically(actually always) I filtered the french fry vats last which means they ran through the same stainless tub with a filter that was full of crud from the other oil vats that fried the chicken McNuggets, filet of fish, chicken patties, etc. That's the way it was 20 years ago. I can't imagine they do it differently now but I haven't seen anyone say they don't. They could avoid this by filtering the french fry vats first or using a seperate filtering machine as it's almost impossible to get it as clean as we need it.

Also remember that McD's are franchises of various sorts. They don't all follow the same rules. "Corporate" stores tried to follow the same rules but deviations always occured.

One thing to keep in mind with fries is that they may not have gluten in them but most manufactures lightly pwder them ti keep them from sticking in the bags they get packed in before they are cooked. That powder has gluten. Being in the business for 20 years I would not risk it.

I recently heard from a family member that is gluten intolerant that McD's food (even the grilled chicken) isn't safe. That they are coated in some kind of flour something?? Anyone know about this?? I stay away from McD's anyway (and many of the fast food places anyway) but just curious!

Thanks!

All of the chicken items at McDonald's (even the grilled ones) contain wheat. If you want to know about specific ingredients, you can get them from the website.

Nothing has changed on the McD's fries.
