Not sure I spelled that right, but this is an excellent grain for Celiac and Vegetarians. This grain has been reported as having more protein than beef. I use it like rice or like couscous.

I've heard a lot about Quinoa, I didn't realise it had so much protein in it. Might have to try it in some meals, thanks for the info Smile

Here's one of my favorite quinoa recipes:

Quinoa & Black Bean Salad

Sometimes I leave out the bell pepper and add some good feta cheese to the recipe.

I did modify the recipe to include more veggies, more cumin and spices...
Start off with this and just add stuff to taste!

Here's some nutritional info on Quinoa.

http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=142

Quote:
Although not a common item in most kitchens today, quinoa is an amino acid-rich (protein) seed that has a fluffy, creamy, slightly crunchy texture and a somewhat nutty flavor when cooked. Quinoa is available in your local health food stores throughout the year.

Most commonly considered a grain, quinoa is actually a relative of leafy green vegetables like spinach and Swiss chard. It is a recently rediscovered ancient "grain" once considered "the gold of the Incas."

Quote:
Health Benefits

Not only is quinoa high in protein, but the protein it supplies is complete protein, meaning that it includes all nine essential amino acids. Not only is quinoa's amino acid profile well balanced, making it a good choice for vegans concerned about adequate protein intake, but quinoa is especially well-endowed with the amino acid lysine, which is essential for tissue growth and repair.

Because quinoa is a very good source of manganese as well as a good source of magnesium, iron, copper and phosphorus, this "grain" may be especially valuable for persons with migraine headaches, diabetes and atherosclerosis.

I find Quinoa very bland unless it’s got something mixed in with it or cooked with something. I tend to mix it with pesto which makes it really tasty or you can cook it in ½ orange juice and ½ water for a salad which is really good too.

I like it because it works well as either a meal side dish or something sweet. We have used it in place of rice, in soups and for breakfast or a snack with cinnamon, bananas, maple syrup or agave, warm or cold. Very Happy

I eat a lot of rice and i like to mix some quinoa in it - I don't often eat quinoa all by itself...unless I make a salad or veggie pilaf...but it is an amazing grain ! My steamer is probably my most used appliance.

We love it! I have it in my store in 4 presentations. Natural, Called Perlada, you cook just like rice. Then flour, mix it with potato and corn flour, and make hot cakes, muffins, brownies. Quinoa flackes, put in fruit, salats, ets, not necesary to cook. Good for babies. Than it is Instant quinoa, just mix with fruit juice, hemp milk, almond milk ets.

Any one knows how to post a photo to my profile?
