This is pretty neat. I saw my GI doc about two weeks ago and he told me I looked great compared to when he first saw me - pre-GF days, but still wanted to repeat the EGD just to make sure things were doing as well as he thought. We did that this morning, and before they started pumping in the "good drugs" he told me that a reporter from our local newspaper had come to interview him about CD and he told her all about this patient he had who had done so well on the GF diet and was so healthy compared to pre-diagnosis and so forth and so on. He asked me if I would talk to her and I said "sure, why not."

Well, she called already this morning, asked me a bunch of questions about the diet, how hard was it to get used to, how long it took to feel better, what were my symptoms, etc., how did I manage restaurants, etc. I gave her all those answers and then told her than an essential was a good support group - preferably you guys - and e-mailed her the link to this forum. So, get ready for some publicity, ya'll.

I am just so happy that I have this opportunity to help spread some information about CD as well as give a plug to the people who have helped me.

Hi Purr,

That is SO COOL [you doing so well, and being interviewed on your success]! Congrats on your new found health. Keep up the good work! What a great doctor experience!!!

Yes, it does feel good to help "Spread the Word". Thanks for passing on a link to our corner of the world Wink

Have you thought about helping other patients of your doc? Maybe you could start a little support group. He's seen how well you do - maybe he could suggest other patients to join your support group. Of course - that assumes you'd want to do that. Not everyone likes to deal with that type of stuff. Certainly something to consider...

BTW - be prepared to get phone calls/emails about the article. That happened to us 2 years when a newspaper did an article on me and Peg's GF cookies. They will track you down - it's amazing.

Hopefully the newspaper will have your article online so we can read it.

Way cool! Let us know if the article is available on the web and where we can see it. We can all say we knew you before you were famous!

Thanks, Al - I am really excited. I'll ask my doc about the idea of a local support group. He says he has about 20 CD patients. The nearest one I know of is at Sarasota Memorial Hospital - probably a 45 minute drive. I haven't checked them out as I already spend enough time on the road Smile

If they have the article on line, I'll post the link.

It actually did run - this Saturday, but so far I haven't been able to find a link for the online edition Sad

I e-mailed the reporter - hopefully she'll get back to me tomorrow with that info.

My church put it up on the bulletin board and one lady came up to me after the service yesterday to tell me about her 13-year-old granddaughter's symptoms and could she possibly have it? I, of course, advised getting tested ASAP. So, hopefully, one person has been educated a little and maybe one kid saved from years of misery.
