I don't know if you know it or not, but you can use 1 cup or 1/2 cup of vinegar (not the cider kind) in place of fabric softener.......don't worry, it might smell a little when you open the washer, but once it goes trough that dryer, it dosn't smell like vinegar.

It really helps. I make my own laundry soap with Borax, Washing soda (not baking soda) and 1 cup of Ivory liquid soap..........It makes about 5 gallons and only costs pennies per load.

Okay, so I know vinegar is a great nuetralizer and have been told by a DR. to use a vinegar/water solution to calm rashes. I assume your post is for those reasons and not as a softner. Can you please tell me more about your home made laundry soap recipe. My husband has developed a horrible reaction to almost all laundry detergent. He has a spicy soapy smell about him that I adore--that is untll I use the wrong soap, then he smells like I left his laundry in the washer for a week before I dried it. Wierd and gross, but only TIDE and liquid ALL work for him. Tide makes me ichy if I use too much and I go through the ALL too quickly, plus both are higher end soaps and with three little girls....... by the way how does your soap work on tough stains? Grass, Spagetti sauce, mustard, chocolate? Thanks , ~Duchess
