Well I have been on some form of ant-acid for my entire life. For the past decade or so, I have been on 150 mg of Zantac 2X a day. Being on this has given me some hairloss (a receding hairline), and osteoporosis, because calcium needs stomach acid to be absorbed, and Zantac reduces stomach acid.
I have tried drinking apple cider vinegar and taken mastic gum to no avail. Everytime after I eat my stomach makes all sorts of noises, and I have uncontrollable flatulence, and if I don't take the zantac, I just feel all bloated and lazy.
I'm thinking that this cause could be what I put into my body. I am going to try a gluten free diet, and see how I feel. But honestly, gluten free foods are expensive, and I really cannot afford to lose any weight.
What are your suggestions on what to get to start on this type of diet? |

If the diet changes work, in the long run, it will be cheaper. You will feel better, will not have to purchase the zantac and cut down on dr. visits.
Look through the Boot Camp thread for the pointers you need. I would take you food purchases down to the outer rim of the grocery store. Veggies, fruits, meats, dairy and eggs.
Look for plain meats. Even some fresh meats are injected with broth, so read labels even on the plain meats to make sure.
Make sure you pans do not have scratches in the non stick coating and avoid using your wooden spoons. (Colanders also can hold the gluten from previous usage due to the tiny holes.)
I hope you get the relief you are searching for and the answers you need. If you think of any ?s after you read the boot camp thread, be sure to post and we will try to point you in the right direction.
Welcome to the board. _________________

Can I drink any kind of milk? I went grocery shopping today and bought organic milk.
I had my very first GF meal and I think the lunchmeat I used had gluten in. Because I could still hear my stomach growling like crazy and I had a little gas. But overall, I do feel a bit better. |

You should also keep a food diary of everything you eat. Gluten may not be your only trigger/issue. (and if it turns out gluten isn't an issue at all, the diary may point you to the real culprit!)
As others have stated/alluded to this is a wonderful opportunity to not replace the processed foods in your diet with gluten free versions but rather reduce the processed foods in your diet and start eating a healthier more whole food diet.
Oh, and don't worry about losing weight, once your stomach issues are dealt with your body will have a much easier time getting the nutrients you need.
One final thought/comment, if you haven't already been tested for Celiac disease, the tests are much more accurate if you are consuming gluten. Just something to keep in mind.
Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Thanks Jason. I drank a sugar free Canada Dry Ginger ale last night and after that my stomach was growling, I had some flatulence and pain. I looked in the bootcamp thread and all of its ingredients are considered "safe." What gives?
The reason why I am concerned with my weight is because when I was born I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Over the years I have developed type 1 diabetes also.
I really frown on going to doctors, I feel like at times I live at the hospital. I'd much rather figure this thing out on my own.
But thanks for your suggestions. I will be keeping a diary of what I consume. |

Solo, you describe my exact symptoms to anything carbonated! I haven't had soda/beer in over a decade!
In addition to gluten and dairy, I avoid coffee and pork completely, and also shy away from large amounts of tomatoes, green leafy vegetables, citrus fruit and eggs. Everyone is different, hence the need for a long term food diary.
Another example: my father can consume beef and he can consume cheese, but if he has both together (i.e. a cheeseburger) he'll be sick. This is going to take some detective work on your part and don't make any upfront assumptions. It may very well not be gluten. If a food seems to bother you, cut it out for a while and then add it back in later on once you're stable to confirm.
Good luck!

Diabetes type 1 and celiac go hand in hand (they are finding)
My husband can't have anything with corn. Within a few min of having conr, his stomach sounds like a chainsaw going and then he starts with the big D and muscles spasms.
All of the artificial sweeteners are corn based. _________________
