Well, this is VERY interesting and would explain a lot for me. I absolutely can't drink coffee anymore. I gave it up when pregnant and of course my symptoms got worse and worse in terms of gluten-intolerance so even after delivery I couldn't drink it anymore. I can sip about an eight of a cup but in all likelihood I'll get DH if I do and any more than that will make my stomach hurt and I feel queasy and dreadful. It's so sad, I really relish the smell and taste of coffee - and here I thought it was just the oils and acids in it I was reacting to. I drink lots of black and green tea so I don't think it's the caffeine.
So Denise, I also would think that you would know if you're cross-reactive if my experience is anything to compare to. _________________ son - high ttg - 4/09, pos. biopsy 5/09

Stsm I know if I drink too much coffee at a time I get the shakes. I drink a 50/50 blend. High octane is too strong for me. Now tea upsets my stomach in a bad way. Especially since I had my gallbladder removed a couple of months ago. I'm still trying to adjust my diet to make up for my gallbladder.
I never feel 100%. Would cross reactivity explain the arthritis? My hands and ankles get worse every day. I have some bent and mishapen fingers and some major swelling around both my ankles. It's slow going for me first thing in the morning. My first step of the day is extremely painful. _________________ Denise

| Why do they think that coffee would cause a reaction like gluten? There are no proteins with a similar structure to gluten in coffee that I know of. Can you link me to a peer reviewed publication? Thanks. |

Neesee, I don't know your history in detail but have you looked into the KickAS diet? http://www.kickas.org/asfood.shtml RA runs in my family and eating this way most of the time really helps a couple of us that need it. hth

Sorry Pkitty! I didn't mean to hijack your thread. I wouldn't eat those super hot doritos. I'm not worried about the gluten factor or anything, My body isn't made for that much spice!
Thanks for the info stsm _________________ Denise

You guys are fine. I know coffee can upset my stomach but it doesnt upset my stomach if I use half milk and half coffee. If I drink anymore than 1 cup of coffee I am nauseuous. Ive seen that list before. I think corn is my kicker. I had corn on the cob last night and this morning I have major g a s.
So, I am going to avoid the corn as much as possible. I know its hard to avoid xanthan gum (though I really dont eat that much of it.) But i am shooting for avoiding fresh corn since that seems to give me the biggest issues. _________________
