Artificial sweeteners seem like a dealt bad idea to me. Studies are now showing that diabetes 2 is actually higher in people who use them, and they trick your body into acting like it got sugar, and increse cravings for the real thing.
I avoid them completely, mostly because they are ultra processed and that squicks me out. |

Interesting stuff. While I am diabetic, I don't necessarily have to avoid sugars, so long as I count carbohydrates accurately. Now armed with the knowledge that fructose and artificial sweeteners act as wild cards (or worse) I am going to try sticking to table sugar and honey around the house, and will slowly phase out all foods that contain fructose of any kind.
It may explain some of the contamination-like reactions I've been experiencing. _________________ - Aaron E -

If you have a fructose issue, honey is not a good idea. It is mostly fructose as is agave and maple syrup. Just because they're natural, doesn't mean they are OK.
I stick to cane sugar only. _________________ Judy |

|
|
hi, everyone. i found out yesterday that i've been poisoning myself with splenda.
for almost 2 months now, i've been plagued with bad anxiety attacks, heart palpatations, chills, sweating, sleeplessness, irritability, extreme anger (i've been lashing out at the people i love like crazy for no reason!), bouts of agoraphobia, ringing in my ears, tension all over, pain behind my eyes, tingling, numbness, dizziness... the list really goes on. i was starting to think there was something medically wrong with me. i was imagining all kinds of terrible, terrible things!
so in these last 2 months, in addition to eating "better", i've started to drink more tea... about 2-3 cups a day & i always use 2 packets of splenda per cup! this monday, after having 1 cup of coffee with 2 packets, 2 cups of decaf tea with 2 packets each & 30 oz's of a 33 oz. bottle of "fruit motions" (from stater bro's), i came down with the worst case of anxiety, that included severe dry mouth & very, very soft stool (close to diarrhea!). after i started having really bad hot flashes, i told myself i had to get outside & go for a walk, that it would make me feel better. so i went walking for an hour, but i still couldn't shake the anxiety! by the time i tried to sleep, i was literally tossing & turning for over an hour 'cause i was suffering from a lot of tension in my neck, shoulders & tingling at the base of my skull.
the next morning at work, when i was entering food into my food log on myfitnesspal.com (i'd just made tea with my usual 2 packets of splenda), i got curious about my splenda usage... i realized i was using quite a bit per day! so that's when i googled, "how many packets of splenda a day is too much?" & stumbled across a plethora of similar stories & blogs. after i read for about 15 minutes, i literally threw the tea i was drinking right into the trash.
today, i'm looking up even more stories online & came across this site & felt compelled to post. it's going to be nothing but honey (ocassionally) & stevia for me from now on! i'm warning everyone i can about how dangerous this stuff really is. it's been 24 hours since i had any splenda & i'm already feeling better. i'm going to give it a full month though to see if all my conditions improve or go away completely!
anytime you think splenda, just think: splenDON'T. |
