I have several digestive sensitivities besides gluten. I can't digest lactose.
I also notice that eating egg whites gives me really noxious gas. Why is this? I've seen some discussion among body builders who say it is because of the presence of so much sulfur in egg proteins.
But why is this a source of flatulence? Does anyone know what the chemistry involved is? I know that flatulence in those who can't digest lactose is from it being digested in the large intestine by bacteria. Is there something similar going on with egg whites? I have guessed that I am not digesting the proteins in egg whites and they are being digested in the large intestine, but I don't really know.
Anyone know for sure what is going on? |
