My son went to a birthday party the other. He had diarrhea while there and he assumed he had been glutened on premises. He was discussing this with the hostess when my husband went in to pick him up. My husband was concerned that our son had offended her and of course we had to discuss how to handle such a social situation - like if you feel sick, call us to pick you up and don't necessarily discuss it with the host(s), don't automatically assume you got glutened until we discuss it since D can be caused by many things.
Well, with him, a little CC usually shows up in 12 to 18 hours, at least the big D. He had eaten practically a gallon of popcorn the day prior and I'm suspecting that it was the culprit, possibly even CC'd because I forgot to check the brand that was being handed out. :/
So I sent an email to the hostess, apologizing and thanking her and expressing my gratitude that it happened at her house since she's very concerned and aware but also very sensible and not as likely to be offended by his frank discussion including the accusation.
Here was her AWESOME reply:
"Ohh. I didn't fully realize he was actually sick. That sucks. There was a lot of goldfish being consumed. I am that last person on earth to get offended by total openness. In fact I appreciate it, that is one of the many reason's I love ur kid. I did partake in diarrhea banter though [ ]
Anyway hope he feels better and by the way ur cupcake containers were left here and I just immediately wrapped them up in a plastic bag so as to not cross contaminate anything. I totally understand that you guys are poisoned by wheat and it would never offend us. As your friends we just care about protecting you from our food, I really mean that. I actually realized after I bought the goldfish that I was Totally creating a gluten party. And I was like ohh ****. I would rather cater to making sure you guys aren't exposed to gluten then not."
so much love!!! _________________ son - high ttg - 4/09, pos. biopsy 5/09

| That's great! It's wonderful to have friends who really "get it" and are so supportive! |

It feels so good when friends understand and go out of their way to make sure you are welcomed!
