Off hand, does anyone know if these are safe?In going thru my pantry (just diagnosed this week with Celiac)

1. Trader Joe's Champagne Vinegarette (says it is shared with eqpm't that processes wheat, soy, shellfish)
2. Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate
3. Good Seasons Italian Dressing Mix
4. Kroger Products (do they have an allergen list)?
5. Crisco shortening
Other:
6. Calcium Silicate (what the heck is that?)
7. Silicon dioxide (ditto)
8. Guar Gum (ditto)

Thank you Smile Razz Love you all

5. Crisco shortening

8. Guar Gum (ditto)

These are gluten free. We use both here at the P household. Even with MrP's allergies to other foods, we have no problem with these 2.

I have no idea about the others though.

Who's the manufacturer of the Swiss Miss and the Good Seasons? If it's a company that practices good labeling processes you might not have to worry about it.

The TJs websites has a listing of their gluten-free products.

1. Trader Joe's Champagne Vinegarette they clearly label their gluten ingredients. It is your ersonal choice if you want to eat foods from shared lines.

2. Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate - Con Agra product. The clearly label their gluten. If you do not see wheat, barley rye or oats on the label, they are not included.

3. Good Seasons Italian Dressing Mix - Kraft product - see#2 explanation above

4. Kroger Products You can contact them about an allergen list. But be careful about lists. Formulations change all the time. your best bet is always to read the label. My dealings with them in the past is that they are a good labeler, but I cannot point you to a citation for that fact.

5. Crisco shortening - Kraft Foods product. See #2

Other:
6. Calcium Silicate (what the heck is that?) - it is an anti-caking ingredient made from ground up rocks. Delicious gluten free rocks.

7. Silicon dioxide - See #6

8. Guar Gum a GF thickening agent.

Kroger info

http://www.kroger.com/healthy_living/nutrition/Pages/gluten_free.aspx

They used to have a registered dietitian on staff that you could call and ask GF questions. I don't know if they still do.

If you haven't done so, please checkout Our Gluten Free Diet Boot Camp. There's lots of info and links to help you thru the beginning stages of GF-dom. Wink
