Roswell's updated gluten free menu offerings.

Outback Steakhouse
(770) 998-5630
655 Crossville Rd., Roswell GA 30075
Proprietor: Thomas L. Propp

Hello to everyone this is Julie the resident Celiac at Outback
Steakhouse on Crossville Road in Roswell. Let me first thank all of
you who have come out to participate in our recent GF Coconut Shrimp
craze!! The response has been so wonderful proving to everyone that
what we have been saying all along really is true; we need to expand
our GF menu!!!!

That being said I am proud to report that as of Monday June 16, 2008
Outback Roswell will now be caring Tinkyada pasta, and Kinnikinnick
hamburger buns! My managing partner, Thomas who happens to have his
culinary degree has worked very hard to adapt all of our pasta sauce
recipes for the GF diner. We even have macaroni and cheese for the GF
kiddies (adults too Smile ). This morning Thomas installed a new
dedicated fryer for GF items. This fryer will be kept covered at all
times to prevent cross contamination. We have purchased GF flour so
that we can use the original Coconut Shrimp beer batter recipe
substituting Bards Tale GF beer and GF flour!! It is even better than
the first GF recipe. You asked and Thomas listened he is currently
working on a recipe for a GF Bloomin Onion!!! Can you believe it? I
too have been waiting for this for years and I work for the company!!

I know that all of you will be just as excited as I am to hear of all
these wonderful additions that our location is adding and I am doing
my best to expand this to other Outbacks but in order to do this we
need your help. Our front of the house manager Jared (super nice and
GF supporting guy), and I are going to be tracking the response we get
to these new menu items including how far everyone is coming to try
them and how often for the next 60 days. We will then be presenting
this to our entire region and then Corporate. We all know that if we
can prove to everyone what kind of success we can have by adding these
menus when we present them we will have a much better response. Please
let us know if any of you have any up coming GF events planned as we
would love to come out and provide GF goodies to everyone so they can
taste how delicious they are! My email address is [log in to unmask]
please email me if you have any questions or if you can think of
anyone I can contact with this exciting news. Thank you for your
continued support and I know that with your help we can begin to
improve our GF dining out experience.
Please go out and support the Outback during their 60-day trial
period. This is the best way we can communicate our support for their
changes and help Corporate see these changes are profitable and
needed.

I hope this goes well!!

Me too! I'm getting the impression that they would replace their flour with GF flour, in the hopes that normal people wouldn't notice. Does that sound right? It'd certainly be easier to maintain, CC-wise.

I'm voting bus trip here! Let's see, the bus could start in Maine, head to Wisconsin, on to Nebraska, out to the left coast, head across the south.... I think we'd all fit in quite nicely in a place called Roswell, even if it is in the wrong state. Laughing

Road Trip!! Don't forget to stop in MA on your way down, Steph!! My mouth was watering when I read about the coconut shrimp!! If they had mentioned Kookaburra Wings, I'd be in my car already. Smile

Yes! If we run out of room I volunteer to ride on the roof. DH is small, he can fit in the trunk.

Check out my blog to see the first ever bloomin' onion. And then contact Outback corporate and ask they offer this at your local Outback. Trust me - they're listening. You would not believe how great this food is and I could not stand Outback before or after my Celiac dx. Now I just wish this location was much closer to my home!

Hi GTBGF,

Welcome to the board! Thanks for bringing Roswell at bit closer to us. It would be great if Outback would take this to the next level.

I emailed Outback to request that they consider rolling out Roswell's expanded GF menu nationally and got the following response:

Quote:
G'day,

Thank you for your email! I am sorry you were misinformed. Please visit our website www.outback.com. Click on Food & Menu/ Gluten-Free Menu. Outback does not serve gluten free Coconut Shrimp, Wings, Chicken Fingers, or Kid Mac A Roo & Cheese.

Just an FYI - we have three other restaurant concepts that have a GF
menu:

Carrabba's Italian Grill @ www.carrabbas.com
Bonefish Grill @ www.bonefishgrill.com
Cheeseburger in Paradise @ www.cheeseburgerinparadise.com
Thanks for dining with us,

Michelle

I am going to send them a response with the link to your review. Hopefully they will look into this individual instance instead of making a blanket statement. Rolling Eyes While I'm at it - I may request that 1000 island dressing be brought back in New England markets.

Please understand that this Outback in Roswell is unlike any other in the country. It's not just their menu that is different - it's the fact that they taught their staff what the word gluten means. In Atlanta no other chain with a gf menu comes close to this Roswell Outback - not Carabba's, PF Changs, Bonefish Grill or any other Outback. I rarely patronize those other places just because it's clear that no on there really knows what gluten is. Having a gf menu means nothing without the training behind it.

I assure you if you call the Outback corporate office you will be able to find someone that knows what you are talking about re: the Roswell GA gf menu additions. The top brass at corporate is trying to figure out why people are driving past other Outbacks to get to the Roswell store - some coming down from Chattanooga even. Duh! They just don't want to tell their dining public that no other store can do this, since it's obvious that if one store can, they all can - should they choose to make the committment to do so. They just can't turn around tomorrow and do it. They have to buy a brand new fryer, gf flour, gf pasta and gf buns and then train their entire staff about cc issues. It's a big undertaking and it's not going to happen overnight. However, I think if everyone bugs corporate about it, it will happen sooner rather than later.

I approached the email to corporate as a suggestion for something to consider in the hopes that it would make it out to the New England market in a few years (maybe about the time my DH and I are going out to eat again with our son in tow...) I also suggested that maybe they consider adding some additional items - like the wings - to the GF menu. The Outback I frequent is pretty good - a few of the servers have family members or know someone who has celiac, so they are aware of the issues. The Carraba's is iffy. The last time I got the chicken soup, some noodles had managed to find their way into the whole batch. Luckily, I found it before I ate it, but was still really worried about a reaction and how it would effect the baby. I had some serious brain fog, but was ok other than that. I haven't tried their other chains - no Cheeseburger in Paradise or Bonefish close to here.

Hopefully we can get Outback to expand what is already a pretty decent selection of GF items. Smile

Thanks again for sharing this info and giving us all hope we can enjoy some of our favs again!! Smile
