I was just over at the Saving Dinner website that I mentioned on another thread. I came across this section. There are a lot of good recipes that could be easily converted to GF. I especially liked the selection of make your own mixes. _________________ Steph |

THanks for the tip, Steph. Looks like some fun things to explore. I love to make my own mixes. Not only does it save money and time, but I can use things I already have in the house and make it just the way I like. My mom always made her own mixes when I was as a kid. Cookie mixes, cake mixes, hot chocolate, pie crust mix, biscuit mix. It is incredible what you can do with a little bit of a time investment. _________________ -Colleen

So true. Right now I'm working on getting a buttermilk bread recipe just the way I want it. When I succeed I'll mix up 8 or so bags of the dry mix, and just have to dump the wet ingredients in my bread machine, and throw the dry on top along with the yeast. Saves so much time in the long run. You only have to get out all the ingredients once. I label my mix bags, and also write on the bag what other ingredients I need to make the recipe, so I don't have to haul out a recipe each time.
When I make lasagna I always make at least 2 pans. Again, if you're going to all the work of making a sauce, and assembling the lasagna, why not make a bunch at once? I used to keep a big jar of hot cocoa mix that I would make for the kids. I wrote the ingredient list right on the lid of the jar, and when we needed more I would just throw it all in the jar and shake it up. So much cheaper than those individual packet, and better tasting too.
I've continued to do a lot of these things because I live with chronic pain. So, when I'm having a good day I make mixes, etc. that make life easier on the bad days. _________________ Steph |
