My daughter came home from her fathers with a big box of Skittles..On the ingredients it says glutten free then it says artifical and natural flavors-
then says food starch-modified.. So is it ok ? Where can I find the candies my kids can have?
I looked at her chocolate bunny (Russell Stover) Which the ingredients dont say anthing bad BUT seen that it shared equipment with peanuts, tree nuts, eggs and wheat..
Have to thats awesome that RS does that... |

Skittles are GF. If the modified food starch was from wheat, it would have to be declared. I have never seen modified food starch made from barley, rye or oats.
Russell Stover clearly labels all their gluten. It is a personal choice whether or not you want to chance foods from shared equipment. Some do, some do not.
Hope this helps. _________________ -Colleen

Hi Shela,
I moved this to a different forum so it wouldn't get lost. While Skittles might be appetizers for some , I thought it might be better here
Modified food starch in this case is OK. If it contains wheat it must be disclosed [modified food starch (wheat)].
Skittles is a M&M Mars product I think. Mars is one of those companies that won't hide any form of gluten. If wheat, barely, rye or oats are there - they will list it. Not all companies do this. Many companies will only do what the law requires them to do - just the Top 8 allergens. Out of these 8 - wheat has to be listed. We also must watch out barley, rye and oats - none of these by law must be listed. Do you see how troublesome this can be? _________________ Al

| I eat skittles...they are now my candy of choice since my twizzlers are out! I have never had a problem with them. When you call, they have a recording of all their GF candies. |
