These wings taste exactly like the wings you get in Chinese restaurants.

Chinese Chicken Wings

3 lb. chicken wings
1 c. soy sauce, GF I just use LaChoy for this. Last time I checked it was GF.
1 stick (1/2 c.) margarine
3/4 c. water
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 -2 tsp. five spice powder
3 cloves garlic, minced. Honestly, this is not a snobby recipe. You could use a rounded 1/4 tsp. of garlic powder here.
1 tsp. dry ginger
3/4 c. brown sugar

Boil all ingredients together, except the wings. Pour over the wings, and chill 24 hrs. Remove wings from the marinade. Bake on a large, shallow sided, baking pan @ 400 degrees for 35 - 40 minutes.

Notes: I have tried cutting back on the margarine in these, but they don't come out the same. When baking, line your sheet pan with foil. I think the non-stick foil would work great here. They get really stuck on if you don't line the pan, and cleaning the pan is too hard. When these are done, I put them in a crock-pot on low. These are a great make-ahead item for "game day".

edited to clarify marg. measurement.

Just FYI, 1 stick of butter/margarine = 8 tablespoons = 1/2 cup.

Ooo, these sound yummy! I haven't had chicken wings in ages. Thanks! Very Happy

I've had these at my mom's, but never made them, myself. I made them tonight though, to go with the Moo Goo Gai Pan I had planned. These were a hit. Steve, my DH, ate 7 and had to remove himself from the situation before he ate more. Liam, my 5 y.o. DS, ate almost as many.

I'm picking up the ingredients for this today. I think I'm gonna grab legs (drumsticks) instead of wings, since neither of us are big wing fans. Do you know how long legs would cook? I imagine a bit longer due to the extra meat...

Os, I'm thinking 50 minutes to 1 hour. Not sure because I've never done it with drumsticks. An hour might be too long. Drumsticks cook pretty quickly usually. Use a meat thermometer if in doubt and insert it to the bone. Double check, but I think 180 degrees is what you want for chicken.

This turned out excellent! Very Happy DH called it "delicious" and "a keeper". If you plan on using drumsticks cook them at 375 degrees for 40-45 minutes, or an internal temp of 160. We're gonna make a few tweaks to the spices, but overall this is very yummy. Went really well with some plain white rice.

Stupid brown rice burned.
