| Does anyone know what this is? I've had it for about three years,and even doctors just shrug their shoulders when I ask.I've been gluten free for about three days now and it appears to be helping. Wheat just totally sets me off,but celiacs is in the intestine and I have no internal pain or discomfort;just a pounding heart immediately after or even during eating some foods. |

You could be having an allergic reaction to something you're eating... then again it could be something else.
You may want to have some additional allergy testing done for veggies, fruits and grains.
If you are allergic to sulfites or salycilites (Unsure if I spelled that correctly), you can have chest pains with it.
I have minor issues with sulfites. I can handle things that have naturally occuring sulfites, but if I get into something that has it added such as dried fruit, and eat more than a handful - I have chest pains.
I'm allergic to Sulfa medication, and have an immediate respiratory and heart reaction with it... to the point that I really should shell out the $$ to get a med alert bracelet that says 'Allergic to...' and listing Sulfa up there first with 'Has Celiac Disease'.

I've had a symptom like this - back in my gluten days. It seemed worse when I was lying in bed or reclined - it's like getting a extra heartbeat or two, sort of an irregular heartbeat. It's kind of scary.
I wanted to comment on your words...
"but celiacs is in the intestine and I have no internal pain or discomfort"
Actually...celiacs can cause a whole list of symptoms NOT related to the intestine and some celiacs don't even have major intestinal issues. From sinus issues to joint pain and fatigue to heartburn to nerve tingling, there are many symptoms of celiac. |

Elf is right, there's a whole list of symptoms that go beyond tummy troubles. Plus, you could have CD and show no symptoms. This is called "silent Celiac". You're still doing damage to your insides. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

I experience the same thing... right now, I just had a sandwich and a bowl of granola with wheat germ... within 20 minutes my brain fogs, nausea/malaise sets in, my head starts pounding, my heart rate increases and my whole body pulsates with it. Does anyone else experience this? I'm getting tested today for CD...at the very least I have a severe gluten intolerance; I can't wait to get the test done so I can go back to trying to detox I'm so glad I found this forum; I need people right now who understand... _________________ "In order to change we must be sick and tired of being sick and tired" ~Anon

Hi! I too have heart symptoms with gluten. Mine started after my second child was born by c/section and my husband was soon after diagnosed with multiple myeloma (a cancer of the bone marrow) I think the stress may have triggered an increased reaction to gluten at that time, but I didn't realize what it was from. I had an EKG and an echocardiogram, all normal, and was told my PVC's were nothing to worry about. I was "dieting", so eating more grains than at other times. I even went on antidepressants for a few months because of anxiety attacks (I think this was mostly because of my very ill husband, but have no doubt that gluten nudged it along quite a bit) The PVC's gradually abated, but my stomach started to get more sore, and for a while there last year I was sure I had an ulcer. My stomach would burn and ache in the epigastric region. My asthma also got worse and worse as the years went by. It's been 5 years since the above started, and I have been GF for approximately 5 months, barring two incidents where I tried it again. The first time I tried it I had only been GF for a month so the reaction wasn't so big (headache, malaise, stomach ache) The next time it was a sticky bun (think twice the gluten with all that kneading, etc!) and I was foggy the whole day and by that night the PVC's had set in with a vengeance like I have never felt before. They lasted like that for two days, and then just stopped. Ever since I have been careful with gluten and haven't had any PVC problems (there have been a few questionable incidents with some possible contamination with soy sauce or other spices where I would get a headache and feel nauseated but very few PVC's, so I think the PVC's correspond with large glutenings) I have not had the test, mainly because I'm going to stick with GF even if I test negative and I don't want to go through eating gluten again and getting a biopsy. Since then I have noticed that my hand eczema/dermatitis is gone and my skin is much healthier, my stomach pain is mostly gone (I wonder if I get glutened when it acts up because it is often at work or when we eat out, and work is always laden with gluten goodies who's crumbs fill the breakroom and microwave) it is never at home where we just don't cook with gluten things anymore because my DS is eating GF for his eczema. My DH has thankfully been very supportive of this new way of eating and has largely gone GF himself because of us. He will eat gluten things sometimes at work. We have been trying many alternative grains and flours such as coconut, millet, sorghum, amaranth, etc. and there is always corn tortillas and corn chips and rice. Fred meyer has a whole line of GF cereals for the kiddo's so they don't miss that-they can have all their faves like peanut butter puffs, gorilla munch, koala krispies, etc. They also like puffed millet on yoghurt. I've taken to using rice noodles in stir fry's and things to give my DS a "noodle fix". He's discovering that mom can get around most of those old favorites that he misses
