Haley, My experience is no bleu cheese, the mayo & seasoning is O.K. as far as I know. You have to check the label. Good luck.

Hi Haley,

Yup...Ann's right! Mayo (Heilmans & Miracle Whip are GF), Garlic Salt (as long as it's only garlic & salt) are GF. All spices from McCromick are GF. They will list gluten if it is a product. Most bleu cheese is off limits because the bleu (mold) is grown on a wheat substance.

There's a post around here about bleu cheese and some brands that are GF...took a look around. If I find it I'll post it here.

Hey Thanks Steve!!!!

Here's another one: http://www.celiacforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43

For an updated list check Delphi's GF Dairy List or the Chicago Mainstream GF Food List.

I think only McCormick's PURE spices are considered gf; the spices mixed in seasoning packets or other blends may be cc-ed due to shared equipment, even if the label doesn't indicate any g-containing ingredients.

Best Foods Real Mayonnaise is gf. I think it's the same product as Heilmans, just on the other side of the Rockies.

That is correct pure spices are GF. McCromick is a GF friendly company - they will not hide gluten in any of their products(ie spice mixes). You run the risk of Cross Contaminated (CC) with ANY product from ANY mfg. that does not have dedicated lines. CC is a valid concern. I think overall most people don't have issues with GF product from McCormick (at least that I've seen, but I have not looked specifically at that recently).

Thanks for the cheese link Al! My Fiance and I took a day trip through Vermont yesterday, ending up in Waterbury at the Cabot Cheese Factory. http://www.cabotcheese.com/ I was in heaven at the tasting table, knowing their cheese was GF. I was hesitant to try the Nacho Cheddar, thinking about hidden ingredients. I asked one of the employees if it was GF and she responded with a curt "cheese doesn't have wheat in it!". After I explained about hidden Gluten in flavorings, she was nicer and said all the ingredients were listed on the package and every type of cheese was in the cooler and I could take a look. I couldn't find anything suspect on the label so I gave it a taste. As with all Cabot cheese it tasted great! (I still like the Habanero Cheddar and Horseradish Cheddar best though!) The spreads are not GF as best as I could tell, and there are crackers here and there for tasting so be careful for cross-contamination!
After we left Cabot we headed over to Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream plant for a tour and a sampling. I had to avoid the Chocolate Chip Cokkie Dough but the Triple Caramel Chunk was great! Ben & Jerry's lists all the ingredients of each ice cream on their website. http://www.benjerry.com/our_products/nutritional_info_all.cfm
It's a great trip for anyone who would like to make it! My apologies to any of you who are lactose intolerant - I can get away with a little dairy in my diet so I really enjoyed myself! I avoided the dining out problem by packing a cooler with carrots, grapes, hershey Kisses and potato chips (Utz brand are GF)
If anyone would like any more info about the trip, let me know!
Steve
