I spent last night pouring through posts.. Everyone is so helpful here and genuinely nice.... Maybe that's a symptom for CD too!!
My case history -- I just had a blood panel drawn yesturday to test for CD... no results... (What's the average waiting time??) I'm so concerned of IgA deficiency. Not because of false-neg results, but because the symptoms read like my own medical history book... Susceptible to repiratory infections, sinus problems.. As a child I was practically born w/pneumonia, also w/recurrent bouts of it. Remained pretty much strep contagious my whole childhood.. (even came down w/it a year ago) IgA protects the mucus linings in your stomach, throat, mouth, lungs... I also have so much gum/teeth sensitivity. I can't use mouthwash or harsh toothpastes (like colgate).. because it peels away the skin on the inside of my mouth. I get broncitis, laryngitis, and respiratory infections once a year. I'm really terrified of having both IgA deficiency AND CD. I had chronic IBS (always the bigD) as an early teen-adult (20yrs).. Stomach pains...started out as IBS and then started w/vomiting. Then discovered I had severe hypoglycemia.. BloodSugars would drop below 40... (So that's why I passed out during 1st period in school.. my sugar laden breakfast probably caused it!)... I remained very thin until I got preganant w/1st child. 3 months after delivery, broke out in hives... developed ear infections and allergies I never had previously.. constipation.. Hormones or something has left rosacea on my face that seems to improve w/diet. Lost all my weight w/work and diet.. I quit smoking w/all 3 children-- after the 3rd, I started again (stupid!), quit 3 yrs ago and gained 25 lbs. lost 12 so far.. still trying.. Oh, I used to have the pins and needles sensations in hands and feet as a child (still do w/coldness and numb).. but I used to get it in my face too!! Anyone ever have that?
I have heart palpitations that seem to becoming more frequent.. I have joint pain that I know is diet related, my hands literally become reddened and painful.. lower back pains..if i go on protein diets or health diets and rid myself of processed foods/bread I am feeling great! I have an aunt with Celiac.., neither of my parents have it. Well that's a list of my symptoms...
I decided that I'll go ahead w/GF diet, since I do feel better on it... I'm also lactose intolerant and through an elimination diet, I discovered it doesn't take but a tablespoon of half/half to set me off. I'm switching to International Delight(fatfree)french vanilla.
The ingredients are:
Corn syrup; palm oil, carrageenan, cellulose gel, cellulose gum, mono and diglycerides, sodium stearoyl lactylate, dipotassium phosphate, polysorbate 60, sodium cassenate, natural and artificial flavors (hum.. suspicious?) and colors.
If any of the ingredients contain gluten and anyone knows about them, please let me know...
OH BTW--- I'm unclear actually about lactose intolerance, allergies.. For those of you who have it, Does it cause pain, or D, or what? For me, it
instantly affects my breathing. Does that sound possible? or happen to anyone else?
Oh, I just now see the poll sheet below.. I'll try to add one.. "My symptoms are, when eating gluten"...
I know there are more symptoms than this, I just wanted to know who has these...
Thanks everyone for listening.. |

Hi Arie! Welcome! I don't have much time, but I just wanted to mention that alot of the stuff you're looking for is in our general discussion sticky.
As far as food goes, you're always better off contacting the manufacturer directly. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Here is what the manufacturer's website says:

No, International Delight does not contain gluten. |
I didn't see a "none of the above" option on your poll, so I didn't respond. Those aren't my symptoms. Here is a list of the 200+ symptons of CD. As you can see it manfests itself in many different ways. It only tooks me about a week to get back my blooodwork results, so hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer.

Hi Arie,
Welcome to the board. Hehehee Yeah, we try to be helpful and nice around here
Sorry to hear that you're experiencing so many problems. Hopefully you can get to the bottom of many of them!
Have you ever had any Celiac Testing done? A Complete Celiac Panel will include a test to check for IgA deficiency. It's not uncommon for Celiacs to be IgA deficient. Actually one study has shown 8.6% of those IgA defic had Celiac Disease.
Before you get too far into the whole GF thing, it really would be in your best interest to get Celiac testing done. You must be consuming gluten in order for the tests to be as accurate as possible. You say there's a family history. All the more reason to try to get some testing done. You say your parents don't have it...have they been tested periodically? No symptoms [sx's] doesn't equate to no CD - it's called Silent CD.
Since somethings affects your breathing, it almost sounds like a true allergy [CD is not an allergy]. Lactose intolerance can primary or secondary in nature. It's primary if your body does not produce lactase - the enzyme that breaks down lactose [the sugar component of dairy]. It can be secondary if there is damage preventing the formation of lactase. Such is the case with CD. CD damages the villi. One of the duties of the villi is to produce...lactase. If the villi is toast - there's not lactase - thus creating a lactose intolerance issue.
Many of your symptoms could be caused by gluten, nutritional deficiency, other food intolerances/allergies. Keep searching...keep reading...keep learning.
Please don't be afraid to ask questions! _________________ Al
