I just want to thank all you adult posters for sharing your experiences. My kids are both on GF diets since infancy, but sometimes it's hard to know when they're up crying in the night if it's teething, bad dreams, just want my mommy, or ate something they shouldn't have. Hearing your stories really helps me know what sorts of things to look out for and how crummy they probably feel when I mess up. After reading the contamination posts I decided to keep separate GF peanut butter, jelly and butter containers. Low and behold my son, 20 mos., is now only up once most nights instead of his usualy 3-4 times!!! If only I'd tried that sooner... Sad

Hi Jen,

Keep up the good work! I'm sure Fruit Bat & Danger Monkey (Very Happy), appreciate it greatly!

A GF diet has a steep learning curve...keep reading, keep learning...it'll all be OK.

Have you ever thought about testing yourself or Danger Monkey, Sr? It's possible you have issues, but don't really know it. Since it is genetic, there is a chance. The kids have it...you may too.

Thanks for the update Smile Take care, glad you're here!!

Jen,

I can relate completely. I have learned so much in dealing with my almost 3 year old son from this group.

It's Unfortunate that any of us have to go through this, but it's such a great blessing that we don't have to go through it alone!

Take care and remember, we're just an e-mail away Wink

God Bless,
Kristie

Thanks, all, for the kinds words. I recently met a friend of a friend who is celiac herself, as well as her mother and grandmother, and just started thinking about whether I should be tested as well. My dad has multiple food allergies, tried GF but he's more allergic to rice than to wheat, so now he just eats everything he wants and uses lots of steroids to control his asthma, so probably the kids inherited this stuff from my side of the family. I was just reading about canker (mouth) sores being a symptom, and I've had these all my life several times a year, so bad it's hard to eat for a week. Hmmm, makes me wonder... We live in a rural area and I'd likely have to go about an hour away to a bigger hospital to get the testing done - is it an outpatient thing? How long does it take? With 2 little kids and a husband working 2 jobs and no family nearby it's really hard to arrange large blocks of free time and sitting in a hospital isn't exactly my first choice of how to spend it. Funny, I would get the kids tested in a second if I even suspected it would help them, but for myself I am strangely reluctant... Shocked

You don't say! Now you've got me wondering If I and my daughter may have it, we both get sores in our mouth pretty badly, also we both stay constipated. (Now Matthew #1 symptom has always been diarrhea, but I've heard many people have the reverse problem.) Matthew is going to have the genetic test in the near future.. if he comes back with GS or CD I'm going to have both Eme and I tested.

As far as your testing questions,.. I'm sorry. I wouldn't know.
I hope you're able to get it done. Please let us know what you find out.

God Bless,
Kristie
