| Has anyone else noticed that they no longer say Gluten-Free on the bags? I've sent them an email to ask, but there has been no response yet. Just wondering if anyone knows, before I give them a call..... |

You are right, Mission no longer labels them gluten-free. I e-mailed the company about it. They have not changed a thing, just took away the gluten-free label. Their reason is that the governement (US) will be defining what is gluten-free in the near future. They are waiting to see what comes of that before they label gluten-free.
Hope this helps. _________________ -Colleen

| Yep, that helps a bunch! Thanks. Wonder why they didn't change the labelling on the corn tortillas, too, though? |

It needs to be set before 2008. That's when companies can voluntarily label products are GF. It's suspected to be at 20 parts per million.
Edit: See below for actual time frame. _________________ Al

I thought the deadline for the definition was January '08. Now I'm going to have to do a google search to find out for sure. |

It maybe Jan 08...I just know that 08 is when it takes effect...
Technically I guess it could be set anytime in 08. _________________ Al

OK - here's the scoop...
Had I read my Summer Edition of GF Living [which i've had for at least 1 month], I'd have known that GF definition will be put into place in August of 2008. They have an article discussing the labeling issues.
| Quote: | | The FDA has propsed a definition that would limit the amount of gluten in any food labeled "gluten free" to less than 20 parts per million. But a final definition is not expected to go into effect until August 2008. |

Ummmm.....can a celiac eat foods that have 20 ppm gluten in them? I thought we had to be 100% free of gluten. I'm a bit worried about this.
