Here's the response I got from the vendor:
| Quote: | Hi Ewan,
The answer will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. I don't know
the specifics of each company's practices, but in general, having
observed a few of the these factories, they will wash down machines
between product batches. The tree nut contamination is treated more
seriously than the other two.
Please contact the manufacturer (info should be on each package) for
more details. If you can't find the phone numbers, let me know and I
can look them up for you.
Regards,
Eric Jones |
IOW, they're selling stuff from other folks, and don't know themselves except that the ingredient list is GF. A little disconcerting...
May need to look at those other options again while I research this stuff. |

Calling the mfg of the food is what is required. Sorry, I didn't explain myself well enough. I'd say the response you got is pretty good considering... It would be like calling the grocery store and asking them about Frito Lay's, Paul Neuman's & Vlasic's manufacturing process. The store is not going to know.
Call each mfg and then base your decision. If you need help deciphering their response, please post it. Many times you get a CYA response from them. Basically they're not going to tell you that it's GF. You need to determine from their response if you want to trust them. In these types of cases, I think it's best to call them, that why you can hear their voice - it's one more clue - it all helps in trying to figure this out. If they are stammering around not knowing their procedures, you gotta wonder. If they confidently know they do this, that and the other thing when cleaning...it helps.
Good luck! _________________ Al

Ewan:
I would get a Gluten Free Dining Out Guide from Triumph Dining. They have a lot of places listed in the guide along your route. (Not so much in Idaho or WY, but there are a ton in Colorado.) They also have Dining Out cards which I find indispensable for going out to eat when needed.
If you have dining out cards, I would bring them with you on your trip and send them back to the kitchen EVERYTIME. That way, there is less chance of a problem. One type of food I always have luck with is Mexican. And you'll be in the right part of the country for it.
No, I don't work for Triumph Dining, I just find their tools very useful.
Good luck! Looks like you're going to have a lot of fun in one of my favorite parts of the country!!
