Is grain alcohol used in cooking spray (ex: Pam cooking spray) ok? On their site they say the baking spray isn't, but I was wondering about grain alcohol that's used in the cooking spray?

Hi Rachel,

Quote:
Is PAMŪ gluten-free?
Original PAMŪ, Butter Flavor PAMŪ, and Olive Oil PAMŪ do not contain any ingredients derived from wheat products. However, PAMŪ For Baking is not gluten-free as it contains real flour, which is derived from wheat.

Pam is a ConAgra Product - ConAgra will not hide gluten in their labeling practice. Smile

Pam's grain alcohol is from corn.

That's great to know -- in retrospect!

Just returned from the annual DNA festival (aka family vacation  ). One of the features is a cousin-prepared blueberry pancake-athon.

Cousin very thoughtfully took my apple-cinnamon GF pancake mix, prepared it in a separate bowl, spooned it on to a separate griddle, but had sprayed it with PAM and wanted to know if that was all right for me.

I winced a bit, but figured grain alcohol is distilled, and gluten does not pass through distillation, so I said OK, and all was well.

So, in retrospect, everything turned out fine. Still, I rolled the dice -- something I do not do lightly.

This is good to know, even if for just the added knowledge.

With that said, I have problems with corn but have never had any problems with Pam or any other cooking sprays.

**counting my blessings** Very Happy
