Hello all...
I'm new to this forum & I think it's a wonderful way for us to support each other & share information!
I have been diagnosed for about 1 yr now. I don't have symptoms, so we check my TTG levels every 3 months. My problem is that although I think I'm eating gluten free...my levels aren't reflecting that...they're still elevated. Although it's nice to feel good all the time, I don't have indication when I've eaten something that isn't completely gluten free....so the battle continues
I am also traveling to the Blackhills shortly & am wondering if anyone has thoughts about restrants or grocery shopping while there.
I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba & at this point am just planning to take some of my stuff with me, as I'm not sure where to shop once there or how different the labeling is in the States vs Canada.
Thanks, Lori _________________ Lori |

Hi Lori,
Welcome to the board!! Glad you stopped by.
I'm running very short on time right now, but wanted to get this list out to you.
Kraft Family Product List - A list of all the products Kraft has.
Unilever Family Product List - A list of all the products Unilever has.
ConAgra Foods Family Product List - A list of all the products ConAgra Foods has.
Hormel Family Product List - A list of all the products Hormel Foods has.
These companies all have very good labeling practices. They will not hide gluten. Currently in the USA only WHEAT has to be disclosed legally. That leaves barley [malt], rye & oats that can be hidden in ingredients and not listed.
There is an Outback in Rapid City, South Dakota. I was there pre-GF days. That was my 1st time at an Outback.
I would venture to guess there's a Walmart there too. Walmart's Great Value Brand will have a "Gluten Free" listed on the label if it's GF.
It might be best to stay away from restaurants all together. Cross contamination and hidden gluten might be reasons why your tTG numbers are improving.
Gotta get to work.... _________________ Al

I will definately check out these lists...I LOVE companies who say "gluten free" right on the packaging!!
I had heard that Outback had a GF menu.....thought I had one place to eat out! Can anyone confirm this? _________________ Lori |

Hi Lori,
If you click my Outback above - you'll get the GF Menu. There is still risks when eating out. Each Outback is different in their knowledge about gluten & cross contamination.

LOL, you guys are great!
I had just printed it off. I also printed off Chili's GF menu, based on discussion that I found here!
I will be careful, though, as I am aware that the staff knowledge varies.
We've rented a cottage, so I can prepare at least 2 of my meals each day. As for the rest, I will pack my own stuff to nibble through the day or hit one of these restraunts.
Looking forward to the trip! _________________ Lori |

What area of South Dakota are you going to be in? We were just there last summer. We were in the Mitchell area as well as the Black Hills. I've found one email that I had received from someone that I found via the listing of support groups by state:
Kim
We have several places in the Sioux Falls area that have been good. . are you going to be there? Also as you travel west on I-90 and go through Mitchell . . they have a great one there called "The Depot" that even has separate pans and very accommodating . . I can ask at our group meeting about Rapid City - and/or Pierre . . as I have no experience there. . . if you will be in our local area (Sioux Falls) I will send names and ideas . . for that.. or feel free to call . .

We did eat at the Depot in Mitchell and it was very good. They also had a grocery store just north of the Corn Palace that had an awesome selection of GF foods. I will check some of my other emails at home and see if I saved any other information.
Have fun! _________________ Kim --

Hi Kim,
Thanks for the great information!
We will be heading through Sioux Falls & will look for Mitchelle & the Depot.
We are also going to the Bad Lands, Rapid City & Deadwood.
Would love to know more if you find any other emails.
I wasn't sure how to contact the support grps, but will also give that a shot! _________________ Lori |
