Thought this story was timely since we have all been thinking about french fries a lot in the last few days.
Accoding to MSNBC, "The world’s largest restaurant chain said Wednesday its fries contain a third more trans fats than it previously knew, citing results of a new testing method it began using in December."
Now, if they could just use that testing method to check for gluten. _________________ -Colleen

Thanks Colleen
Yeah, I've read the headlines of that.
They could test for gluten if they chose to. _________________ Al

IEW!
That's just plain nasty! Aside from the fact that the fries can no longer be deemed gluten-free, the whole FAT issue is just icky!
That does it--no more fries, not even if they're homemade, for me! _________________ ~Torrey

I heard that on CNN HNN yesterday -- 8 gms instead of 6. Well, we knew they weren't that healthful anyway, right??? |

You can make fries at home that are good and good for you.
I cut potatoes an/or yams into fries, then spritz them with olive oil (good for you), and then sprinkle with GF seasonings. Yams cause less of a spike in insulin and have more fiber. I put them on a Pampered chef stone and cook them in the oven until they are good and crispy on the outside. The stone makes them crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I think I also got the oil spritzer from Pampered Chef too. Using the the spritzer instead of aresol I can spray pure olive oil I buy in bulk at the health food store, save money and the ozone and not worry about gluten all at one time. |

On my home from running errands I almost stopped and had my baby bag of French F. but changed my mind due to recent posts. I took like doing my own fries at home. I cut potatoes or sweet potatoes into fries, season them with a variety of stuff, depending on my mood, and bake them in the oven until lightly brown. Much healthier.
