| Curious as to what people think of this: My sister was recently diagnosed with CD during a routine blood test (she's type 1 diabetic). This was confirmed with a biopsy, btw. As for myself, I am not a diabetic, nor do I feel sick at all when eating grains or bread. However I have always had much lower than average muscle mass since I was a teen (I'm 25 now). Could there be a connection? I don't seem to have any of the traditional symptoms. |

Hi Nitzguy,
Welcome to the board!
Because your sister has been dx'ed with CD you are definately in a higher risk group (1 in 22). Everyone in your family should be periodically tested for CD since it is genetic. A single negative test does not clear you for life!
Loss of muscle mass can be an issue, I don't know of lower than normal is. The presenation of symptoms in celiac vary widely. Some have the traditional symptoms, some have none at all.

Here's Our Thread on CD Symptoms
I don't know if I've answered your question, but I certainly would look into getting tested.
Here's the full celiac panel:
------------------------------------------
A complete Celiac Blood Panel:
antigliadin IgA and IgG (May indicate Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity)
anti-tTG and/or anti-endomysial (Looks for villi damage)
total serum IgA (rules out IgA deficiency)
anti-reticulin IgA (Rarely used but, a very thorough doctor will include this)
